The Human Needs Reminding

Hey, you over there with the flashy box!

It's dinnertime!

Ah, that's better.

It's hard to find good help

Hello Kitties!

My handsome face reveals my innermost feelings about The Human's new work schedule, where she is gone like elebenty billion eleven hours a day.  She disappears out the door around 6:00 a.m. with a cheery "Bye-bye, Spitty!" and does not return until I am practically fainting from weakness and hunger and neglect. As soon as I figure out how to dial the phone, I'm calling the SPCA on her.

I wish you could hear the raspberry I'm blowing!

Spitty's Miscellany

Hello, Kitties!

The Human says the catnip is doing better than she expected. Her science teacher mentor suggests "thinning," which is of course what the Human would like to do to herself, but she understands this thinning means dividing the 'nip into another pot when the time comes:

And here for a return engagement, our friends Aggie & Wally! This is Aggie peeking out from behind some bookshelves where technically she is not allowed to be (is it too late for Scofflaw Week?) Wally continues to express his cherryblossom personality, always ready for a cuddle and a purr. Last, we see the two five-month-olds peaceably sharing their after-school snack.

And finally, the piece de resistance, my glorious self, enjoying the afternoon sun:

Oh, how good it is to curl up once again in my snug little round bed and feel all toasty on this chilly day!

I'm smiling! Can you tell?

Carl Sandburg once said

The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
And see?  Mr. Sandburg knew what he was talking about:

Here I am, peacefully catching up on my sleep. Life is good again!

Heat Wave, Day 2

Oh Bast, it's hot!

current conditions
Updated: 3:40 PM PDT August 24 2010
 101° F
 Wind: NW at 9.0 mph
 Humidity: 25%
 Visibility: 10.0 miles

Kitties, it is over 100 degrees here and I feel all fainty. I really am not sure I will survive this terrible heat wave. My head is hot, my perky ears are hot, my pretty paws are hot, my tummy is hot, even my floofy, luxurious tail is hot.

If only someone would bring me some nice fresh ice water in a crystal bowl, and a just a dab of tuna on a small china plate!

Heat Wave

Okay, kitties, listen up. This is how it goes every.single.year.

Freezing weather.
Freezing weather.
Freezing weather.

School begins!

Heat wave.
Heat wave.
Heat wave.

The Human is hot. The students are hot. Everybody's cranky and cooped up.

Me? I just bask in the sun without a care in the world!

Sunday, Sunday

Mmmmmm, breakfast was delicious!

Now it's time for my nap, if someone would put that flashy box away:

Catching Up

The Human has not been behaving as a proper servant should for the past several days. School started on the 18th.  She went back to work, while failing miserably to accommodate my need to blog and visit my friends. She says things will get better, but I've heard that tune before.

Nip Update:

The nip now resides in this little greenhouse at school:

It appears to be doing reasonably well, though progress is slow...which leads me to this:

The Human visited PetSmart today and decided my happiness should not depend on her pathetic gardening skills. I think it's kind of a bribe, to tell you the truth. Yeah, okay--that works for me.

Let Me Introduce Fritzie

. . .my pen-pal.  For the past two years, Fritzie and I have exchanged almost daily e-mails, on topics ranging from deplorable service from our Humans to the calamitous state of the world, from the sad failure of local sports teams to the characteristics of the very best noms.

I have never actually met Fritzie in person (which might be a good thing since he's about three times my size), but the Human allows me thorough sniffs of her hand when she returns from petting him.

I lubs Fritzie. He is my best friend.

Why I Am Svelte and the Human Is Not

Here is MY food supply:

Delicious, varied, ample, is it not?

But Oh My!  Just a block away from the little street we live on is a bigger street. Here's a nearby three-block stretch::

Pluto's! Salads and delicious sandwiches!
Naan & Curry!  Tikka Masala to die for.

La Fonda: She ate here twice in the last couple weeks.
Villa Romana: One of her faves. Food, food and more food.

Beanery:  Great coffee, which would be fine if she didn't eat so many pastries
Darla's: 2nd-best burger in the neighborhood, and she ought to know

Perilla:  Garlic Noodle Garlic Noodle Garlic Noodle!
Crepevine: Yum, crepes, omelets & more. She met a friend for brunch here last week. Again.

Lavash--Flatbread, kabobs, spices...heaven!
Lime Tree: Believe it or not, this is one she hasn't eaten her way through yet.

So, there ya go. And that's why she's been crabby since a week ago when she started a "diet." Uh-huh. We'll see how long THAT lasts.

Me, just gimme my Stinky Goodness, my crunchies &; I'm good to go. Say, maybe she'd like to try my regimen for a week?

Gray day

#11,432. In a row.

Yep, it's Summer in the City, all right. Somewhere, there's a big fiery ball in the sky, but that somewhere is not here.

My Little Friends

The Human has very few decorative cat items (well, excepting me, of course), but this strangely compelling little tribe of kittehs has survived many a purge. I'm a little worried they might start plotting against me one day, so I have to keep my eye on them.

Can you see? Can you see?  Well, can you?  This morning the Human counted SIX (6!!!) little sprouts.

However, I am still 98% certain she will manage to kill them before they mature into anything really edible, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up just yet.

Busy Day

First, it's a sleep-in Saturday. The Human may be irritating, but she did a good job of warming up the bed for my quick morning cat-nap:

Then, I was busy with my stripey ball, Mr. Nippy and the Purple thing:

Finally, it was time for some serious snoopervising before settling in for my 9-hour nap!

Dinner Is Served

Really, why not? Surely I am civilized enough to eat at the table--with a nice placemat, too, please.

NEWS UPDATE:  Looky! Looky! Looky!  It's NIP!!! Momkat can stop biting her nails (for now, anyway).

Portrait Day

Well, today's post should have been much more interesting, but the Human left the flashy box at the home of Aggie and Wally's Dad last evening, and the only alternative to using a boring old photo would be having her draw today's picture, which you really don't want to see.

So, here's an old shot of me brooding over some real (or possibly imagined, ed.) mistreatment at the hands of the Human--late dinner, unscooped box, too much touching, etc.:

The flashy-box should be retrieved in time for tomorrow's post.

Identity Crisis

Oh, Kitties!  What is happening to me?

While the Human was away (more about that some other time), the same two neighbor ladies came to take care of me. On Sunday night, I let one of them pet me and it wasn't even the same one who did it before.

What's wrong with me? In all my seven long years of life, only the Human has ever touched me. But lately, I don't know, I feel a little . . . affectionate.

Buh-Bye, Human

Sure, go ahead, go off and have a good time! Don't waste even a moment's worry about me, here, alone (again), sad and depressed. No, no, no really--what's important is your fun. I'll be fine.

I'll just catch up on my sleep.

The Human says we can start visiting again on Tuesday.

Saturday, August 7, 2010

If you woke up this morning....

...it's because Jack Bauer spared your life!

She knows it's kind of pathetic, but the Human is a "24" addict. She actually forked over Green Papers to purchase some seasons all for her very own so she could watch them while I am trying to nap.

Almooooost there, but something will explode in a minute and wake me with a bang.

Mr. Nippy: Are Your Days Numbered?

This is my old friend, Mr. Nippy. Remember him? The Human fills his little belly with high-quality nip and then microwaves him for a few seconds to enhance my sniffing pleasure. Mr. Nippy has served me well. I often carry him with me from place to place.

So why would Mr. Nippy's place in my affections be at risk?

This is the reason.

On Tuesday, the Human purchased Nip Seeds. She filled a pot with soil, planted the seeds as directed, watered with MiracleGro-laced water and put the pot out on the little garage roof outside our dining room window. And there it sits, in the fog and cold. The packet says sprouts will appear in 12-15 days. Uh-huh.

I don't think Mr. Nippy has much to worry about.

BREAKING NEWS:  As of approximately 4 p.m. PDT, the pot full of dirt and seeds has been brought indoors and attended to in the manner recommended by our friend MomKat Trish of the Katnip Lounge.  The Human now feels she will have someone else to blame if tender shoots of Nippy Goodness fail to materialize from the little seeds.
